A shotblasting cabinet is an enclosed abrasive blasting machine used for surface cleaning, rust removal, paint stripping, deburring, and surface preparation. The right cabinet depends on the abrasive media and blasting process, with pressure, suction, and wet blasting cabinets available for different component sizes, finishes, and production requirements.
A shot blasting cabinet is a fully enclosed unit that combines a blasting mechanism, dust collector, and glove ports in one package, letting an operator clean a component by hand while abrasive media stay fully contained. The operator works through a two-hole glove section in the cabinet front, viewing the part through a window while the cabinet contains abrasive media.
Common abrasive media used in these cabinets include steel shot, 30/60 mesh sand, steel grit, aluminium oxide, and copper slag - selected based on the material and finish required.
Only the pressure, wet, and suction blasting cabinets are different. A two-hole area in front of the cabinet in which the user can insert their hands into glove-equipped gauntlets to blast a workpiece. A closed container that contains a dust collector, a shot blasting machine, gloves, a shot blasting hopper, etc., makes up the cabinet. An air gun is used outside the cabinet to remove leftover particles from a workpiece's surface after shot blasting is completed.
Airless (wheel-based) cabinets use a centrifugal blast wheel to throw abrasive mechanically - no compressed air needed for the blasting action itself. Tumblast shot blasting machine and similar rubber-belt configurations fall into this category.

How Abrasive Recovery Works
Spent abrasive falls through a grate into the cabinet hopper, where a reclaimer separates it from dust and debris. Oversize particles are screened out, and clean abrasive returns to the hopper for reuse. Dust and fines are drawn into a dust collector - either a reclaimer-type unit (recovering abrasive for reuse) or a fabric bag type (trapping dust inside a fabric bag) - keeping the process both economical and relatively clean.
Automatic shot blasting cabinets cost more than manually operated ones, reflecting the added control systems and reduced operator involvement. Manual cabinets suit lower-volume or varied-part work where an operator's direct control matters; automatic configurations suit repetitive, high-volume production where consistency across every part is the priority.
