Grit blasting room, also known as a grit blasting booth. A grit blasting room is effectively a large-scale version of a grit blasting cabinet; instead of an operator working through glove ports on a small part, the operator works inside the enclosure itself, blasting components too large for any cabinet using a portable machine and hose. It's built for heavy industrial yards and components like rail cars, commercial vehicles, and aircraft sections.

What Is a Grit Blasting Room?

A grit blasting room is an enclosed chamber where the operator works inside, blasting components with grit media via a hose connected to a portable sand blasting machine positioned outside the grit blasting booth. On-off control runs through a remote control and deadman handle, giving the operator direct, safe control over the blasting cycle from inside the enclosure.

Grit blasting rooms come in a range of sizes, with larger configurations able to accommodate uniquely shaped or oversized components, rail cars, commercial vehicles, military equipment, and aircraft sections among them.

How Does Abrasive Recovery Work?

Two recovery methods are available:

• Mechanical recovery: grit falls to the floor of the room and is collected by an automatic mechanical system (screw conveyor and bucket elevator), or manually collected into the blast pot where a floor system isn't installed
• Vacuum recovery: compressed air transfers grit through the system instead of mechanical conveyance

• Blast pot - a pressurized container holding abrasive media
