A blast room system is an industrial solution for blasting large and heavy components that cannot fit inside conventional sand blasting cabinets. It provides a fully enclosed workspace with abrasive recovery, dust collection, ventilation, lighting, and operator protection, allowing efficient surface preparation of large structures.

What Is a Blast Room?

An abrasive blast room is an enclosure that contains abrasive blasting machine operations on large components while recovering the abrasive material for reuse, keeping fine dust from escaping into the surrounding air. A portable blasting machine sits inside the chamber, and the operator blasts the workpiece using a hose connected to it - the room's job is containment, safety, and abrasive recovery, not the blasting mechanism itself.

Companies preparing surfaces before applying protective coatings, especially on components too large for a cabinet, rely on a blasting booth as the standard solution.

Steel Fabricated vs. Civil Constructed Blast Rooms

A blasting room can be fully steel fabricated or built as a civil (masonry) structure with a steel-fabricated door. In a civil-constructed room, the door includes air louvers that let in the airflow required by the dust collector system. Doors can be sliding or hinged, chosen based on your workshop's available space and access needs.

Modular (metallic) construction is a fully sealed, dust-tight, all-steel structure built from prefabricated components for simple bolt-together erection on-site - this design meets most customer requirements without the longer lead time of civil construction.

How Abrasive Recovery Works?

Two recovery methods are available:

• Mechanical recovery: a screw conveyor and bucket elevator carry spent abrasive to a media separator, which separates reusable shot from dust and debris. Usable shot falls into a sand blasting hopper and re-enters the cycle.
• Vacuum recovery: compressed air transfers abrasive through the system instead of mechanical conveyance.
