​What Is Cut Wire Shot?

Cut steel wire shot is made by cold-drawing wire to a precise diameter and cutting it into pieces as long as they are wide. The cut pieces have sharp corners, so they are then conditioned: fired against a hard target until the edges round off and the shot becomes nearly spherical. It is also called cut wire steel shot or steel cut wire.

Because the wire is cold-drawn, each piece is dense and free of the voids and cracks that can appear in cast shot. The size is uniform, and the hardness is consistent, which gives predictable peening results and long service life.
