Zinc wire (also called zinc spray wire or zinc metalizing wire) is a high-purity zinc wire made for thermal spray guns. The gun melts the wire with an electric arc or an oxy-fuel flame, and compressed air blows the molten zinc onto the part.
The sprayed layer is pure zinc. It adheres mechanically to a grit-blasted surface through the energy of the particles hitting it, and it contains no zinc-iron alloy layer. It is slightly porous, but zinc corrosion products tend to fill those pores over time and seal the coating.
