A multi cyclone dust collector is a bank of many small-diameter cyclones working in parallel with one common inlet and one common outlet. The smaller diameter gives stronger centrifugal force, so it removes finer dust than a single cyclone, and handles higher airflow, with approx. 90-98% efficiency. A multi cyclone dust collector uses many small cyclone tubes side by side. All the inlets feed from one common inlet chamber, and all the outlets join into one common outlet. Each tube works like a single cyclone: dusty air spins, centrifugal force throws the dust to the wall, and the dust falls into a common hopper while cleaner air rises out through the centre.
Centrifugal force rises as the cyclone gets narrower, and a longer cone gives dust more time to settle. A bank of thin, long cyclones therefore catches finer particles than one large cyclone, while the parallel layout still handles a large airflow.
The pressure drop is higher than in a single cyclone, so the fan needs more power. A single large cyclone is cheaper to run, but it removes less dust.
It separates solid particles, not gases, fumes, or chemicals, and it is less effective than a bag filter on very fine dust.
