Internal Pipe Sand Blasting Machine: Complete Guide Working Principles
Cleaning the inside of a long pipeline sounds simple until you actually try to do it you can’t rotate a heavy, fixed pipe, and manual tools barely reach past the first few feet. This is exactly the gap an Internal Pipe Sand Blasting Machine is built to close. It’s a pneumatic tool designed to clean the internal diameter of a pipe without needing to move or rotate the pipe itself, making it a practical solution for refineries, pipelines, and shipyards where components simply can’t be repositioned for standard blasting.
What Is an Internal Pipe Sand Blasting Machine?
We offer two pneumatic models of Internal Pipe Sand Blasting Machine, designed to clean the inside diameter of pipes ranging from 51mm to 914mm, and up to 40 feet in length a setup covered in more depth in our internal pipe abrasive blasting machine guide. These tools are easy to operate and require no rotation of heavy pipes, saving both time and operating cost.
The tool is inserted into hollow pipes and coupled with a portable sand blasting machine via a blasting hose. Mounted on a lightweight centering carriage, it’s then pushed manually from one end of the pipe to the other. As it moves through, it blasts away stubborn rust, carbon, mill scale, and old paint, leaving behind a clean, white metal finish that’s ideal for the next coating layer.

As the table shows, each model is built for a specific pipe diameter range from small bore 2 inch pipes up to large 36 inch industrial pipelines so the right model comes down to matching nozzle configuration and air supply to your actual pipe size.
Operating Principle of External Steel Pipe Shot Blasting Machine
For external pipe cleaning, the setup works a little differently. In this configuration, two blast wheels are positioned at the top and bottom of the pipe cleaning shot blasting machine, and the entire cabinet is lined with manganese steel tile to withstand constant abrasive impact.
The inlet and outlet sides of the cabinet are fitted with suction rubber curtains sized to match the pipe’s outer diameter, which stops shots from escaping the internal pipe blasting equipments during operation. The whole unit is properly ventilated by a powerful pulse-jet type dust collector to keep the working environment clean.
The pipes themselves sit on the inner side of a screw conveyor unit, which carries them into the blast chamber. There, the blast wheels propel abrasive media onto the pipe surface, cleaning it completely before it exits through the outlet side of the conveyor belt, ready to be moved on for the next stage of processing.
Features of Internal Pipe Blasting Equipment
- 360° internal blasting: Cleans the full internal diameter of the pipe (2″–36″, up to 12 Mtr length), removing any kind of contamination from the inner surface.
- No rotation of heavy pipes: The tool moves through the pipe rather than requiring the pipe itself to rotate, saving significant time and handling effort.
- Economic and lightweight: Built for efficient, effortless handling without adding unnecessary weight to the operation.
- Fully pneumatic operation: Runs entirely on compressed air, with no electricity required on-site.
- Compatible with portable blaster models: Attaches easily to Portable Blaster Models for quick, straightforward setup.
- Adjustable centering system: Comes with a centering collar and adjustable centering carriage to suit a wide range of pipe diameters, along with support for abrasive mesh sizes 18–40 (excluding river garnet/sand, aluminum oxide, and silicon oxide).
These tools are widely used across refineries, pipe liners and manufacturers, shipyards, and water, gas, and chemical processing plants anywhere internal pipe corrosion or contamination needs to be cleared before recoating or recommissioning.
