What Are Ceramic Beads?

Ceramic beads are solid, round particles made from fused ceramic oxides, mainly zirconium oxide-based material. The molten material is formed into smooth spheres and screened into precise size grades. Because the beads are round, they peen and polish a surface instead of cutting it, which gives an even, satin finish and adds compressive stress.

They are also called ceramic blasting beads, ceramic bead blasting media, and zirconia beads. They contain no iron, so they do not contaminate stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, or other sensitive parts.

Ceramic Beads vs Glass Beads

Both ceramic blasting beads and glass beads are round, but ceramic blasting beads are denser (about 3.8 vs 2.5 g/cm³), harder, and much tougher. They break down more slowly, make less dust, and last several times longer, so cost per job is often lower even when the price per kg is higher.

99.7 % Aluminum Oxide
99.7% aluminum oxide beads are enormously resistant to wear, heat, & corrosive conditions. They contain adequate dimensional stability up to 1,000 C. Alumina is resistant to oxidation & can withstand water, salt solutions, as well as a variety of acids & chemicals.

92 % Aluminum Oxide
These spheres are discussed somewhat differently from earlier uninfected alumina spheres in that they contain 92% less aluminum oxide. As a consequence, these spheres are more economical. This development is additionally differentiated by its high abrasiveness and lower heat creation. 

Zirconium Oxide Stabilized with Cerium
