About Zinc Spray Booth
What Is a Zinc Spray Booth?
A zinc spray booth (also called a zinc spray chamber, metalizing booth, or thermal spray booth) is a controlled enclosure for spraying molten zinc or aluminium wire onto steel. Air is pulled through the booth by a fan, so the dust and fume created while spraying are captured and filtered instead of spreading through the workshop.
It is used with a Flame Spray Gun, Arc Spray Gun, or Metalizing Gun, often right after the part has been blasted to a grey, rough, near-white surface.
How Does a Zinc Spray Booth Work?
- Blast first: Clean the steel in a shot or sand blasting machine to a grey, rough finish.
- Load the part: Place it in the booth on a trolley, roller conveyor, rotary table, or manipulator.
- Spray: An operator or automatic gun sprays zinc or aluminum wire. A silver-grey coating builds up.
- Extract: The exhaust fan draws dust and fumes into the dust collector.
- Filter: Coarse particles settle in the cyclone, and fine dust is caught by the filter unit.
- Unload and finish: The coated part leaves the booth and can be sealed or painted.

LPG cylinder manufacturers use a zinc spray booth to metalize the outside of cylinders before they are painted, usually in their familiar red finish. Our dry booth for this job works like this:
- The cylinder sits on a two-roller conveyor driven by an electric motor. It moves forward and rotates inside the booth.
- A worker or automatic system sprays zinc or aluminium using a wire flame spray gun or an arc spray gun.
- Dust and fumes go to the exhaust fan and a reverse pulse-jet pleated filter dust collector. The cyclone catches coarse dust first.
- Vestibules at both ends stop dust and fumes escaping when cylinders enter and leave.
- Cylinders can travel on an overhead conveyor from the blasting machine into the spray booth.
