Air Breather Filter

An air breather filter is utilized as safety equipment that supplies clean air to the blasting hood for the operator’s safety during the sandblasting process. It helps in removing oil, water vapors, and dirt particles greater than 0.5 microns from the breathing air respirators. Air breather assures the operator’s safety so that they could not be exposed to anything that is potentially harmful to them. Air breather usually goes collectively with a Sand Blasting Machine safety suit, safety helmet, and gloves. Air breather filter gives great deep breathing air to operators. The characteristics of great deep breathing air are that it should be free from oil or dirt particles to a certain extent. Also, it should have a minimum amount of water vapor and carbon monoxide. Main parts of Air Breather Filter

• INLET COUPLING: Inlet coupling is connected with the compressor through which compressed air enters inside the air breather. 
• OUTLET COUPLING: Outlet coupling is connected with the AC. 
• FILTERING CARTRIDGE: The filter cartridge helps in reducing all the oil, dirt particles, or contaminants from the compressed air before it reaches the operators. The filter cartridge consists of the activated carbon or activated charcoals and glass wool which absorb all pollutants from the air so that only pure and cleaned air may be permitted to flow and reach the operators. At the top of the filter cartridge, a net is placed so that filtered air may enter inside it. It is very necessary to replace filter cartridges from time to time otherwise, operators may be exposed to the smell and taste of contaminants. Also, high-pressure loss in the system with a compressor may occur.
• AIR REGULATOR: Air regulator helps in regulating the airflow in the air breather.
• DRAIN VALVE: Drain valve is essentially utilized to remove moisture and oil, by which the life of the filter can be increased. When the filter is in a humid climate, or there is much moisture or oil enters with the compressed air, it becomes essential to drain the filter reservoir.
• FILTER FOOT: The entire air breather body is mounted on the filter foot. It carries the load of the whole device.
• FILTER BODY: The filter body consists of all the elements of the air breather in itself.
• FILTER CAP: The filter cap is established at the top of the air breather. On the filter cap, outlet coupling is mounted and a handle is also mounted over it. 
• O-RING, RUBBER: O-ring is used so that no leakage of compressed air may take place. It prevents air leakage and pressure loss also. 
• HANDLE: Handle makes it convenient to carry the air breather at any location. 

Working of Sandblasting Air breather filter

Sandblasting Air Breather Filter works on the same principle on which any other air filter works. When compressed air from the air compressor enters through inlet coupling, it carries some moisture with it which is removed by the vortex action of air inside the filter case. The filter cartridge consists of glass wool which helps in reducing the dirt particles. Along with it, activated charcoal and carbon helps in absorbing oil or moisture and removes odors that are harmful to operators. Then again, glass wool removes more contaminants, and then clean air is passed through the outlet coupling to the operators. All the required activated carbon or charcoal and glass wool are kept in an anti-corrosion case. Air breathers may supply this clean air to one or more than one operator at a single time. In an air breather, the air breather filter pipe is connected from the compressor with the filter intake. The airline of the air breather filter hose is connected with the filter outlet pipe. The filter should not be connected to the compressor outlet reservoir directly or near it. All these connections should be tightened properly, so that no leakage and pressure loss may take place.
